You might have noticed the post meta of my website where I am showing Last Updated Date instead of typical content publish date. By default every WordPress theme including Genesis Framework shows the article publish date in post meta. In this genesis customization tutorials series, today I will share how to change the genesis post meta and add last updated on date.
This information is useful to let the user aware about that you have just re-publish or updated an old blog post with more information. This is a great feature to bring your article in the home page if you are considering current date. I am using Genesis News Pro Child Theme and finding it really easy to customize the theme to get my desired functionalities and design. Let’s find out how easy it is to add last date in your genesis child theme.
Steps To Add ‘Last Updated Date’ to Post Meta in Genesis
If you are comfortable to edit the functions.php file, then just open the file using your WordPress admin area and then look for the “genesis_post_info” code where you have to add a new meta parameter like below. Don’t change anything under $post_info tag, simply add the below one.
Last updated: ‘ . the_modified_date(‘F j, Y’, ”, ”, false);
Don’t want to touch the functions.php file to get this change? Then use the Genesis Simple Edit free WordPress plugin to get this done in just in a few click.
How To Add Last Update Date Using Genesis Simple Edits Plugin
First download that plugin and then install by visiting the Genesis Simple Edit plugin page.
Go To Genesis in your WordPress admin area and the click on Simple Edits option.
As per the screenshot above there are many parameters that you can easily control in your post meta area. You can also put the modified time after adding last updated date on genesis framework if you want.
